A walk through Ronda’s viewpoints, from the Alameda to the gorge

Ronda’s viewpoints are best walked along the edge of the Tajo gorge: Alameda del Tajo, Paseo de Blas Infante, the Puente Nuevo and, once in the old town, the Mirador de Aldehuela. With more time, add the Jardines de Cuenca and the Puente Viejo, and the path down to the bottom of the gorge to see the Puente Nuevo from below.

The route, in order

The upper part is flat and follows the cliff from north to south, from the Alameda to the Puente Nuevo. It is the stretch worth doing even if you are short of time:

  • Alameda del Tajo, next to the bullring: a nineteenth-century tree-lined promenade whose avenues end at a balcony on the cliff edge, with open views of the Serranía (Turismo de Ronda page). From here, the Paseo de los Ingleses follows the gorge northwards if you want to extend the walk.
  • Paseo de Blas Infante: heading south, it runs along the cliff past the Parador terraces and brings you out at the Puente Nuevo.
  • Puente Nuevo: the deck itself is a viewpoint, with the river nearly a hundred metres below. Its history is in our Puente Nuevo guide.
  • Mirador de Aldehuela: just across the bridge, where Calle Armiñán begins, with the closest view of the arch. More in the Mirador de Aldehuela guide.

If you have more time

The second part heads down the side of the gorge and needs more legwork. The Jardines de Cuenca are terraced gardens between the Puente Nuevo and the Puente Viejo, linked by steps, and each level frames the bridge differently. Further down, the Puente Viejo gives a quieter view of the riverbed and the old town.

The classic photo of the whole Puente Nuevo is taken from the bottom of the gorge. The path down is steep and the return is all uphill: avoid the hottest hours, take water and check access with the tourist office. To find your bearings, open the map from the Puente Nuevo.

When to go

In the morning the gorge shows more depth and the Alameda is quieter; late afternoon turns the stone golden. At night, with the bridge lit up, the stretch between Blas Infante and Aldehuela feels completely different: see Ronda after dark.

If you only have one day, this walk fits inside Ronda in one day.

Right next to the Mirador de Aldehuela is La Pilastra, with a terrace over the gorge. It is a good place to stop between the upper walk and the way down to the gardens; if you want a table with a view, see how to ask for the terrace.

Tips for the viewpoints walk

  1. Wear comfortable shoes: expect cobbles, slopes and some steps.
  2. Save the path to the bottom of the gorge for early morning or late afternoon, never the midday sun.
  3. Stay behind railings and in marked areas: the gorge is very sheer.
  4. If you are combining the walk with monuments, check their opening times with the tourist office.

Frequently asked questions

Can you see all of Ronda’s viewpoints in one day?

Yes. The upper part (Alameda, Blas Infante, Puente Nuevo and Aldehuela) is flat and makes an easy walk. The Jardines de Cuenca and the path to the bottom of the gorge take more time and effort.

Which is the best viewpoint for the Puente Nuevo?

For a close-up, the Mirador de Aldehuela; for the whole bridge, the bottom of the gorge. The Jardines de Cuenca sit halfway between the two.
