# Ronda at night: the lit bridge and an easy evening walk

> Things to do in Ronda at night: watch the light fade over the valley, cross the lit Puente Nuevo, wander La Ciudad and have dinner without leaving the centre.

Ronda at night comes down to a short walk you can do without a map: the balconies over the valley as the light fades, the lit Puente Nuevo from Plaza de España and the Mirador de Aldehuela, and the quiet lanes of La Ciudad. It works before or after dinner; leave the walk down into the gorge and the trails for daylight.

## As the light fades

The evening starts a little earlier on the El Mercadillo side, where the Paseo de Blas Infante and the Alameda del Tajo look out over the valley and you can watch the light change over the Serranía. It is the busiest moment; if you prefer things quiet, wait until it is fully dark before heading to the bridge.

If you only have time for one balcony, the [viewpoints walk](https://lapilastra.com/en/ronda-viewpoints) explains what each one offers and which is closest to where you are.

## The Puente Nuevo lit up

With the bridge lit, the gorge looks completely different: the stone stands out against the dark drop and the daytime bustle fades away. Two spots let you see it without walking far: Plaza de España, before you cross, and the [Mirador de Aldehuela](https://lapilastra.com/en/aldehuela-viewpoint-ronda), just on the other side in La Ciudad.

Cross slowly and stop halfway to look down on both sides. For photos, use the time when the sky still has some blue left in it: the bridge stands out better than in full darkness.

## An evening stroll through La Ciudad

Over the bridge, Calle Armiñán leads into the old town. At night the squares of La Ciudad, such as Duquesa de Parcent beside Santa María la Mayor, are almost empty and the walk is short and peaceful. You can loop back to the bridge along parallel streets without getting lost: the old town is small.

Stay in the lit streets and squares. The paths down to the bottom of the gorge and the old bridges are steep and best enjoyed by day; our [one-day route through Ronda](https://lapilastra.com/en/things-to-do-in-ronda) fits them into a morning or afternoon.

## Dinner before or after the walk

The evening walk and dinner fit together with no extra travel: La Pilastra is at the start of Calle Armiñán, beside the Mirador de Aldehuela, right where you finish crossing the bridge. The restaurant is open until 23:00; if you want to eat late, ask when you book until what time dinner is served. Everything you need to choose a table and plan the evening is in [dinner in Ronda](https://lapilastra.com/en/dinner-in-ronda), and for a special occasion, in [dinner for two](https://lapilastra.com/en/romantic-dinner-ronda).

## Making the most of the evening

1. Bring an extra layer outside the hottest months: it cools down by the gorge after dark.
2. Do not go near edges or unlit areas for a photo; the best views are from the official viewpoints.
3. Take your photos before sitting down to dinner and save the stroll through La Ciudad for afterwards.
4. Spending two days in Ronda? The evening fits at the end of day one: see [a weekend in Ronda](https://lapilastra.com/en/weekend-in-ronda).

## Frequently asked questions

### Where is the best place to see the Puente Nuevo at night?

From Plaza de España, before you cross, and from the Mirador de Aldehuela on the other side. Both are a few steps away and do not involve going down into the gorge.

### Can you walk down into the gorge at night?

It is better by day: the paths are steep. In the evening, the walk is best enjoyed on the bridge, at the viewpoints and in the old town streets.
